Set out on a moonlit adventure through Ba Bể National Park, guided from Mr Linh’s office to the enigmatic Na Phong Cave. Stroll across illuminated rice paddies and whispering forests, where fireflies flicker, bats swoop, frogs croak and owls glide overhead. Along the way, Tày and Dao guides share the region’s timeless myths, offering a rare, enchanting glimpse into the forest’s secret nocturnal world.

The tour begins at 19:30 from Mr Linh’s Ba Bể office, where guests gather for a safety briefing and receive headlamps and binoculars. After a short introduction to nocturnal wildlife and forest safety, the group sets off along forest paths and rice fields under the moonlight. From the very first steps, visitors are immersed in the sounds of the night forest: frogs calling from the streams, owls hooting in the canopy, and the lively chorus of insects. Along the way, fireflies sparkle like tiny stars, and sometimes bioluminescent fungi glow faintly on the forest floor, all explained vividly by the guide.

By around 20:30, the group arrives at the entrance of Na Phong Cave. Here, guests explore the outer chamber and safe passages of the cave, observing bats, cave crickets, and other creatures of the dark. In the quiet atmosphere, the guide shares myths and legends of the Tày and Dao people connected with the cave and the surrounding forest. Afterward, a short rest is taken with warm herbal tea and local snacks, offering a chance to pause and fully absorb the serene beauty of the night.

The return journey begins at 21:20, following an alternative trail that provides a fresh perspective on the nocturnal ecosystem. With the help of binoculars and night-vision equipment, guests may spot civets, night birds, or other elusive forest animals. The guide also explains how the forest transforms after sunset, deepening appreciation of Ba Bể’s biodiversity. By 22:30, the group returns to Mr Linh’s Ba Bể office, where the experience ends with a recap of the species observed and a farewell toast with “happy water” or a warm cup of tea before resting.
